, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Botswana national soccer team coach Peter Butler said he expects his team to end a string of poor results when they play neighbors Lesotho in the African Nations Cup Championship (CHAN) qualifiers on Sunday.

Butler told the media prior to his departure to the kingdom nation on Friday that his team is thirsty for victory and will redeem themselves against Lesotho.

Zebras are still reeling from a 2-0 loss at the hands of Uganda in their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group D qualifiers opening match just a week ago.

Prior to the loss, the team had lost two games in the regional Confederations of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) tournament in May.

The team's last win came against South Africa in the quarterfinals of the tournament when they progressed through a penalty shootout after the match ended in a 0-0 stalemate.

Butler said his team played well against Uganda and was disappointed that they lost the match.

Pressure has been mounting on the former West Ham and West Brom player ever since he took over the reins of Botswana coaching job from local Stanley Tshosane over a year ago.

He however pleaded for patience saying he was building a strong team made up of mostly inexperienced youngsters.

Against Lesotho

, Butler will not have the luxury of using South Africa based players as the CHAN tournament allows only African players plying their trade in their respective home leagues.

This means the trio of skipper Joel Mogorosi, Mogakolodi Ngele and first choice goalkeeper Kabelo Dambe will not be available for selection. Butler said they are expecting a tough encounter against Lesotho as they are no minor teams in modern football.

, we are fully focused on the Lesotho game. I have absolute confidence that we can get the desired result against Lesotho," he said.

Botswana will host Lesotho in the return leg in a fortnight with the winner progressing to the next stage of the qualifiers.

, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- The president of South American football confederation CONMEBOL has resigned after being charged with corruption, according to media reports on Friday.

Juan Angel Napout was among 16 people indicted by the US justice department last week for allegedly accepting bribes to award media and marketing rights.

On Monday he agreed to be extradited to the US.

Brazil's Folha de S. Paulo newspaper said the 57-year-old Paraguayan tendered his resignation in writing to the Asuncion-based body.

, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation news quoted police officer Martin Degrend as saying in Edmonton.

He said no other suspects were being sought in the shooting and that there was no longer any public safety threat related to this incident.

Police searching for the suspect managed to find the stolen car near a golf club in the northwestern part of the city.

Police said although the suspect has been located, people were advised to stay away from the golf course as the investigation continued.

Police were also asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers.

HONG KONG, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- A 64-member delegation including 42 Rio Olympic gold medalists and three elite athletes from Chinese mainland on Saturday arrived in Hong Kong for a three-day visit.

Twelve girls from the volleyball squad and their head coach Lang Ping, swim star Sun Yang, five-time gold medalist Wu Minxia, as well as Fu Yuanhui, the swimmer who became a new social media star after her adorable and outspoken interview, will meet and communicate with the Hong Kong citizens during the visit.

At the welcome ceremony held at Hong Kong international airport, Carrie Lam, the chief secretary for administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government, said the central government has arranged national athletes to visit the region for five times since its return to China in 1997, which reflected the support of the nation to Hong Kong and the deep feelings between the peoples of the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong.

Liu Peng, minister of the General Administration of Sport of China, said the national athletes' achievements in the Olympic Games could not have been done without the support and help of Hong Kong people.

"We come here to share our glory and victory with Hong Kong people, and express our gratitude to them for their enduring support and help." Liu said.

Some Olympians will showcase their sporting skills at the badminton&tennis demonstration performance and diving demonstration performance will be held on Sunday morning at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium (QES) and Victoria Park swimming Pool, respectively. Other athletes will go to different places to communicate with Hong Kong citizens.

They will all then spend the afternoon greeting the public at the show "A Date with Mainland Olympians" at the QES.

The delegation will visit Hong Kong Sports Institute to share their experience with Hong Kong junior athletes on Monday morning before leaving for Macao in the afternoon.
